Abbeygate House demolition update

Demcom Ltd are undertaking demolition work at Abbeygate House, 164-167 East Rd, Cambridge CB1 1DB on our behalf.
Demolition works are being undertaken for the duration of 15 weeks from 1st September 2025, with the works expected to be completed by 12th December 2025. Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 08:00 – 17:00.
These works are being carried out with approved planning permission from Cambridge City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.
The work involves stripping out and demolishing the existing structures, preparing the site for future development and we endeavor to cause minimal disruption for the duration of our work.
FOOTPATH CLOSURE
Footpaths will be temporarily closed during the demolition of the building, between 164-167 East Road and Crispin Place, the rear of Abbeygate house, on Burleigh Place and at the side of Abbeygate House, on Crispin Place, as agreed by Cambridgeshire County Council.
ROAD CLOSURE
A Temporary Road Closure will come into effect on 1st September along Burleigh Place between the rear of number 31 and Burleigh Street. Access will be maintained to properties affected by this order.
The alternative route for vehicles is via Crispin Place; A603; Dover Street; Adam and Eve Street (only for permit holders); Burleigh Street; A603; Crispin Place. Signs will be in place for the closures and diversion routes.
